Incantation is a performative, multidisciplinary project combining different approaches to sculpture. Clay sculpture by artist Christian Pauchon and sound sculpture by Robin Félix.

 

Christian was inspired by the formal aesthetics of bolis (African fetishes, sometimes zoomorphic, sometimes anthropomorphic), to create stoneware wind instruments, mysterious both in form and sound. By blowing into them, Christian takes us back to a form of primitive music.

 

It's an incantation to a divinity - perhaps - blown by a human, into an instrument shaped like a beast - perhaps too. We're not sure about anything, and Christian likes to remain deliberately vague about the nature and function of his works, and the purpose of these incantations.

 

Live, this collaboration translates into a live transformation of the sounds emitted by the sculptures using granular synthesizers.
